Annotations
The handshake (Gary's placard model): GPS pre-validates the customer is inside the geofence, then the customer scans the business's counter placard QR. Two factors — location + physical placard — no staff hardware, no staff app.
Scanning happens in-app via the device camera (supported in modern mobile browsers). Manual fallback: the short location code printed under the QR (broken camera, glare, low light).
The confirmation screen IS the staff's verification, so it proves liveness: continuously animating frog, running clock, and a rotating "word of the day" — a screenshot fails all three at a glance.
Scan = verified redemption by default (fee snapshot recorded). Businesses get a 48-hour void window on their dashboard for scan-and-walk-away cases — keeps the counter at zero friction while protecting trust. This resolves the "verified purchase trigger" open question from the handoff.
Placard guidance printed on the card itself: have customers scan at payment. Staff honors the deal manually in their own POS — Ribbit.deals records the stats.
Fraud posture, stated honestly: photographed placard + spoofed GPS is theoretically possible; deal values are small, QR tokens are rotatable per location (reprint from admin), and anomaly flags (velocity, repeat device) catch abuse patterns. Right-sized for MVP.
